Vocal and instrumental styles of music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance up to the Romantic period are taught by musicians with an international reputation as authorities in their field. For more than fifty years the Department has formed a unique breeding ground and melting pot for talent in historical performance practice. The Early Music Department of the Royal Conservatoire enjoys a worldwide reputation as one of the largest and most important faculties of its kind. Master classes and lectures will be given regularly by specialists ( musicians and musicologists) from the Netherlands and abroad. You can give your Bachelor programme a more personalised profile with your choice from a range of electives, including baroque dance, style-related improvisation, advanced lessons in basso continuo and rhetoric. Research is another essential feature of the programme and you will be introduced gradually to the subject with lessons in bibliography, source studies and research techniques. You will therefore also study the fundamentals of basso continuo, the historic development of this instrument, as well as the practice and theory of ornamentation, diminutions, notation and analysis of style. But you will also learn how to play the Renaissance Traverso and the multi-keyed flute from the 19 th century.Īlthough the course is highly practical in nature, the study of early music demands a good theoretical grounding and background knowledge of the history of music and instruments. You will study the role of the flautist in chamber music, the oratorio and opera. The course in Traverso focuses mainly on the basic repertoire from the 18 th century. His field of expertise also includes French baroque music, classical and modern repertoire.In addition to the technical skills that form the basis of your professionalism, such as breath control, articulation and phrasing, an understanding of different styles is the other pillar of your craft. His artistic activity is focused on Johann Sebastian Bach’s musical output, ranging from solo music performance to managing ensemble projects. He participated in numerous masterclasses such as Piccola Accademia di Montisi with Christophe Rousset, Varmia Musica Academia with Ewa Mrowca-Kościukiewicz, and Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität Vienna Harpsichord Masterclass with Nicholas Parle. Harpsichordist currently enrolled in early music performance programme at Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Music University in Łódź under the guidance of prof. He is also a member of a male vocal ensemble The Singing Heads. As a chamber musician (Barque Ensemble, Alba del Mondo, Musica Perennis, La Viva Fiamma) and orchestral musician (Altberg Ensemble, Capella Warmiensis Restituta, Das Lausitzer Barockensemble, Diletto), he has performed at various Polish early music festivals. He plays many types of transverse and recorder flutes, from Renaissance to 19th century simple system flutes. He has attended many masterclasses led by prominent pedagogues such as Kate Clark, Georgia Browne, Corina Marti, Karolina Zych, Peter Frankenberg, Raphael Alpermann, Nicolas Parle, Katarzyna Drogosz, Stefan Plewniak, Henryk Kasperczak and Sirkka-Lisa Kaakinen Pilch. Graduated with distinction from the Academy of Music in Lodz in Magdalena Pilch's transverse flute class, and is currently studying the recorder in the class of Marek Nahajowski.
